In recent years, digital skills have become increasingly relevant to big companies and SMEs, ICT professionals, and the EU’s future workforce. But, currently, we see a big gap between what skills the market needs and what the EU’s workforce has to offer — and it is nowhere more apparent than in software development.
The European Software Skills Alliance (ESSA), kicked off last December, has been created to support the EU’s Software Sector with a solid framework for educating and training individuals into high demand software roles, with major benefits to the digital ecosystem and society as a whole.
What is the project about?
ESSA aims to bridge the software skills gaps in Europe and accelerate the professional skilling, upskilling and reskilling of the EU’s software workforce to ensure the current and future software skill and professional needs of the sector can be met. How? By delivering practical tools to meet the demand for software skills in Europe:
- A European Software Skills Strategy building on a market-oriented needs analysis. As a result, it will define a novel approach to close together the European software skills and roles gaps, with concrete and implementable actions.
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) curricula, training programmes and course materials. Practice-proofed, these learning opportunities will specifically address the identified software skills and roles gaps for Developer, DevOps expert, Solution designer, Technical (software) specialist and Test specialist.
- A Software Skills Community space that allows you and all people believing we can be the actors of change to share knowledge and insights, and advocate all together for software skills and professional quality.
